The NICHE Awards annual competition, in existence for over 20 years, recognizes originality, excellence and creative achievement of North American studio craft artists. Thousands of entries are received each year from professional and student artists. The entries are judged by a prestigious panel of craft professionals selected by the editors of NICHE magazine; they include museum directors, gallery owners, curators, craft industry experts and arts advocates. The panel judges each competition entry within its category on 1) technical excellence (in surface design and form), 2) distinct quality of unique, original and creative thought, and 3) market viability. After the judging process is complete, the counts are tallied and the 5 top-scoring pieces in each category become NICHE finalists.
