After our last post, which sadly detailed why we were unable to go to Peru this year, you may be wondering how we have been faring in Florida. Truth be told, we are not sure just how profitable this venture has been. Doing back to back art shows, while simultaneously prepping for our first wholesale show, has kept us far too busy to compare sales versus expense receipts. We can, however, share with certainty how we have been faring spiritually and emotionally. In this regard, we are thrilled to report that 2013 is looking as bright as the Florida sun itself. With many new customers and a whole lot of sun and sand, our spirits are absolutely soaring. It is amazing how spending time outdoors can strengthen the spirit for growth and renewal.
Since arriving in Florida, we have made time every day to honor our beautiful surroundings. Coco has enjoyed learning about species of trees and plants that he has never seen before. His creative wheels have been spinning since we got here. I can’t wait to see what new designs will be created as a result of this trip. He is particularly inspired by this tree, which repeatedly renews itself with roots and branches…
The beach has been a special place for renewing the beautiful energy of our family. Our favorite time to go has been late afternoon so that we can stay for sunset. On the west coast, watching the sun drop into the Gulf has been absolutely awe-inspiring.
Some nights we have been lucky enough to see the sun set while the moon simultaneously rose behind us. There is nothing more magical than that! What a perfect learning opportunity for Mayu as well. We have been talking about the earth’s cycles and how each new day is a miracle and an opportunity for growth and renewal. While teaching this important lesson, Coco and I could not help but relearn it. Mayu has enforced it by teaching us to say at bedtime, “Goodbye sun, Goodnight.” And, “Hi moon. Hi stars. Goodnight.”
On the east Coast, the light of the sunset reflected in the ocean has been equally as breathtaking. Coco and Mayu have been combing the beach for “treasures,” Coco seeking design inspiration, while Mayu relishes in the thrill of the hunt. Mayu has recently discovered his pockets as the perfect keeping place for his “treasures.”
Once the sun has set, we have been lingering on the beach to walk and enjoy the spectacular colors of the sky. I like to walk a few steps behind Coco and Mayu so that, for a moment, I can take in all the love and beauty that surrounds me. There is no better way to calm my mind from the business’s stresses and “to do” list. With them in view, all that is important is beautifully illuminated and I can’t help but let the rest go. In moments of such sublime clarity, those sales and expense receipts don’t really matter at all. Not even a little bit. Wouldn’t you agree?
“May everyday bring new chances to grow, new beautiful things to see, new plans to do, and new goals to pursue as every new day is a miracle.”
Loving family, beautiful world, fulfilling work – you live an artful life. Peace and success to you in 2013.

Great article Melanie; thanks for sharing. It is good to know that this has been a great trip for the 3 of you as a family. Mayu is a lucky little boy to have you and Coco as his parents. I am lucky to have you as my daugher who added 2 wonderful men to our family. We are all blessed. Love, Mom
