Rumi Sumaq means “beautiful stones” in Quechua, the indigenous language of Peru. From his art jewelry studio on Martha’s Vineyard, Peruvian born designer Coco Paniora Salinas creates hand-woven jewelry that pays homage to both his Native ancestry and his island home. Using indigenous weaving techniques in innovative ways, Coco incorporates metal and macramé with stunning stones, shells, fossils and other manifestations of our natural world. Designing and creating on the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard, it’s only natural that Rumi Sumaq jewelry invokes a spirited connection to the sea.
